+++++++++ Art work by Keiko Futatsuya
Contemporary Boro is now available for sale.
Boro is a style of textile that the Japanese repeatedly repaired over time. Boro obtained its value by how it looks, and we can find some beautiful Boro pieces in the antique markets.
We, Upcycle Stitches and Sashi,Co & Keiko Futatsuya, create Boro Artwork from "To-Be-Boro Fabric." The Boro we can find in the antique market is a type of well-reserved Boro. The fabric on Boro will not get torn by touching it. However, there are type of fabric, we call it "To-Be-Boro Fabric", which is too fragile and torn as the textile.
We have skills to make "To-Be-Boro Fabric" to Boro Art.
This is the Boro Art-piece made by hand-stitching in 2017. We call these Boro as "Contemporary Boro"
These contemporary Boro is the product of luck. The stitching process itself takes about a few weeks to a month, but collecting the necessary vintage fabric takes for a long time. Some people say that the Boro is a product of chance; that the people who made Boro didn't think of patterns or colors, and they repaired the fabric only for functional purposes. We disagree with it. No matter how limited the fabric resource was, the Japanese enjoyed the colors and patterns. That is why, the Boro from 19 century has a great value in 2017.
We are now trying to make the Boro by our hands, by collecting these "To-Be-Boro Fabric".
Enjoy the ultimate art of repurpose, upcycle, and Mottainai (too good to waste).
